These controls answer two different questions. Beginner friendly describes the range and character of the climbing. Critical and At Risk are conservation and access threat labels transcribed from Sandeep Maity's original guidebook. They are not climbing grades, closure notices, or guarantees of current conditions.
Beginner friendly
Shows sectors the guide describes as offering climbing for beginners as well as stronger climbers. In the current source this includes Paradise and Shambala. It does not mean every problem is easy or every landing is safe. The Paradise description still recommends more than two pads and one or two spotters for most climbs. Climbers should understand bouldering safety and select problems within their ability.
Critical - Red Zone
The guidebook's Red Zone: Beyul, Oasis, Black Hole and Quantum. The guide reports serious pressure from regional development, with boulders buried under debris or destroyed, and specifically warns about stone crushers at Beyul. Critical describes risk to the climbing area, not route difficulty. Minimise impact, verify current access and seek current local information. This label is not, by itself, a legal closure notice.
At Risk - Yellow Zone
The guidebook's Yellow Zone, currently Shambala Forest. This indicates a meaningful threat that calls for extra care, current local information and low-impact behaviour. It is less urgent than the source guide's Red/Critical classification, but it is not a climbing grade or proof that access is guaranteed.
Normal source status
No elevated Red or Yellow threat level is assigned to the sector in the source guide. Normal does not mean risk-free, permanently open or unaffected. Land ownership, access, construction and local conditions can change, so verify information on every visit.
